JOHN
L. McINTYRE
Since 1978,
John McIntyre has been a defense litigator. Over the years, he has handled hundreds
of defense cases including auto, premises liability and coverage issues. A great
many of the cases involve complex medical and legal issues.
Mr. McIntyre has obtained defense verdicts and summary judgment dismissal in a number of defense actions. Mr. McIntyre’s practice currently involves the handling of lawsuits in Pennsylvania State Court primarily located in Central Pennsylvania, as well as cases in the Western and Middle Federal District Courts and the United States District Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He
is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame
and Duquesne University School of Law.

FRANK
J. HARTYE
Frank Hartye is both a litigator and solicitor for his hospital clients. He regularly defends his clients in all levels of the State Courts as well as providing guidance and opinions on policies, patient confidentiality and business arrangements such as the purchase of physician practices. He
has successfully defended professionals in many areas of
the medical arts such as emergency medicine, cardiology,
pulmonology, family practice, surgery, neurosurgery, neurology,
obstetrics, gynecology and orthopedics.
Mr.
Hartye is a graduate of Villanova University
and the University of Louisville School of Law. He
served as the Blair County District Attorney
which lends a unique perspective and knowledge
to matters involving confidentiality and mandatory
reporting. This has proven invaluable in those unfortunate
cases involving allegations of molestation of patients.

LOUIS
C. SCHMITT, JR.
Lou Schmitt’s practice focuses on automobile and trucking litigation, commercial litigation, premises liability, and products liability. He has been primary counsel on a number of large products liability cases. He has an impressive number of defense verdicts, even in situations where negligence is clear and the issue is whether the plaintiff was truly injured, or to what extent. He
is also very experienced in the Summary
Jury Trial format which is heavily used
in Blair County and, more and more, in
other counties where we practice.
Mr. Schmitt is a graduate of St. Francis College where he was a leading player on the Red Flash Basketball team. He attended law school at the Franklin Pierce Law Center. He
is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New
Hampshire, and the District of Columbia.
In
2005, Lou Schmitt was chosen by his peers as a Pennsylvania “Super Lawyer” in the field of civil defense litigation, as published in Philadelphia and Law & Politics
Magazine. |

MICHAEL
A. SOSNOWSKI
Mike
Sosnowski is a veteran litigator. He has represented both hospitals and physicians in almost every Western Pennsylvania county and the Appellate Courts. He works very well with physicians, both as clients and witnesses. His
areas of medical litigation experience
include surgery, cardiology, infectious
disease, emergency medicine, orthopedics
and obstetrics.
Mr.
Sosnowski is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University
and Ohio Northern University School of Law where he was Manuscript
Editor for the Ohio Northern University Law Review. He
also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Michael J. Wherry,
of Mercer County. |

LAURA
O. BURKE
Laura
Burke joined the firm in 2007. She is a litigation
associate working in all areas including medical malpractice,
auto and premises liability. She previously clerked
for the Honorable Elizabeth A. Doyle of the
Blair County Court of Common Pleas.
Laura
is a 2005 graduate of Washington University School of Law
in St. Louis. She also graduated cum laude from
the University of Richmond in 2002. |

JULIE RADFORD
Julie Radford grew up in Bedford County, attending school in the Chestnut Ridge School District. She began practicing law in Bedford in 2001, and has since had the opportunity to work with several firms across Pennsylvania, gaining extensive experience in a broad range of practice areas. She has practiced in the areas of real estate, municipal law, civil litigation (both plaintiff/personal injury and defense), business law, banking law, estate planning, estates and family law. She has handled everything from federal investigations by the Department of Housing and Urban Development for a real estate title company to defense of doctors in medical malpractice actions and advising a national bank on a daily basis as their assistant solicitor.
Ms. Radford is pleased to have the opportunity to return to Bedford and to bring the full-service law firm of McIntyre, Hartye, Schmitt & Sosnowski to her hometown. She looks forward to meeting the legal needs of the residents and businesses of Bedford County. The Bedford office of MHS&S will provide more than 100 years of combined professional experience, and will focus on real estate, municipal, business, estate planning, estates and family law. In addition, the Bedford office will handle personal injury and other civil litigation matters.
Ms. Radford is a 2000 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in International Relations. She received her law degree in 2004 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where she also obtained a Certificate in the Advanced Study of International Law. |
